Come back in time with us for a Jane Austen filled evening with books, trivia, treats and prizes. Our booksellers will be ready to recommend their favorite Austen book adaptations, and Austen-themed swag and special editions of her novels will available for purchase. Extra points for anyone who turns up in Regency costume!


Program

6:30: Jane Was Here author, Nicole Jacobsen, will discuss her experiences of visiting the locations associated with her book and the enduring relevance of Jane Austen long after her birth. Nicole will be in conversation with Karen Joy Fowler, author of The Jane Austen Book Club.

About the Authors

Nicole Jacobsen is a writer and teacher from Palo Alto. In 2020, her first book Jane Was Here was published, detailing the adventures of Jane Austen lovers exploring her world. She is interested in the intersection between writers and the places that inspired their works, with experience working in literary museums and writing. In her spare time, she loves to read, bake, chat, travel, and spend time with the people she loves most.

Karen Joy Fowler is a novelist and short story writer. Her fourth novel, The Jane Austen Book Club, was a New York Times bestseller and her sixth, We are all completely beside ourselves, won the PEN/Faulkner for fiction in 2013 and was shortlisted for the Man/Booker. Her most recent, Booth, was published in March of 2022. At present, she’s written seven novels, has seven grandchildren, and lives in Santa Cruz.
