Beverly Daniel Tatum, PhD, is president emerita of Spelman College and in 2014 received the Award for Outstanding Lifetime Contribution to Psychology, the highest honor presented by the American Psychological Association. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia.

Julie Lythtcott-Haims is the best-selling author of Real American: A Memoir, and How to Raise an Adult. She served as Dean of Freshman at Stanford University. 

There are a handful of authors and a handful of books that have brought the national conversation of race in America to the forefront. Michelle Alexander, Jonathan Kozol, Ta-Nehisi Coates … and Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum stand out among them. In her seminal book, Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?, Dr. Tatum took the psychology of racism in our country head on.
