America 250 Community Reads: Her Right Foot
As the US marks its semiquincentennial amidst a highly polarized social climate, Kepler’s Literary Foundation remains steadfast in our goal of bringing people together–even, indeed especially, across differences like ideology and class. This Independence Day we are proud to announce America 250 Community Reads, a summerlong program dedicated to creating a shared reading experience for one book that will spark conversations, deepen understanding, and strengthen community bonds.
We have chosen Her Right Foot, a non-fiction picture book about the Statue of Liberty written by award-winning author Dave Eggers and illustrated by San Mateo County resident and Caldecott Honoree Shawn Harris. Through the story of the Statue of Liberty, Her Right Foot invites readers of all ages into a timely, hopeful conversation about America's history, ideals, and our shared responsibility to keep moving toward a more inclusive future.
Please bookmark this page, as we have a lot of plans in the works: not only book giveaways, but also story times, goings-on with community partners, and maybe even a party….
