This Is Now: Congressman Adam Kinzinger

  • Kepler's Books 1010 El Camino Real Menlo Park, CA, 94025 United States (map)

Congressman Adam Kinzinger served nearly twelve years in the US Congress. But it was his impact on the congressional January 6th Committee that sealed his place in the history books.

GOP Congressman Kinzinger openly criticized his party’s threat to sanction any Republican who served on the committee. He was one of only 34 Republicans who voted to investigate; he pushed for a second impeachment of former president Trump. He bucked the very party that had enabled his political career—and the party promptly labeled him a traitor. Death threats to him, his wife, and children poured in. And ultimately, Kinzinger lost his next election.

Kinzinger’s new book, Renegade: Defending Democracy and Liberty in Our Divided Country, tells us the inside story of those battles, as well as Kinzinger’s own take on the growing cultural chasm that culminated in the insurrection. He traces his own history of service to the country: winning his first election while still in college, joining the Air Force to eventually serve in Iraq and Afghanistan. He tracks the GOP’s descent into dysfunctional and destruction. And he issues a call for us all to do the hard work of saving our democracy.

Congressman Kinzinger joins Kepler’s in-house journalist Angie Coiro onstage October 28. Join us for this critical discussion.

Kinzinger will stay to sign copies of Renegade after the event.
