“Dr. Doty is to be congratulated for offering a practical guide based in neuroscience on the mechanics of how personal reality is created in consciousness.”—Deepak Chopra

For decades the practice of manifestation (the idea that focusing on positive thoughts and beliefs can attract desired outcomes into one's life) has been widely dismissed as self-involved, materialistic pseudoscience. But as neuroscientist and recognized compassion leader James R. Doty reveals in his new book, Mind Magic: The Neuroscience of Manifestation and How It Changes Everything, manifestation lays the groundwork for a kinder, better world.

In his 2017 New York Times bestseller, Into the Magic Shop, Doty shared his transformative personal journey from a troubled childhood to successful neurosurgeon. The title refers to a magic shop where Doty met a woman named Ruth, who imparted valuable life lessons and taught him about the power of compassion, mindfulness, and positive thinking. In Mind Magic Doty continues to explore the intersection of science, spirituality, and the human capacity for change. He grounds us in the practices that change our brain structures: attention, meditation, visualization, and compassion. This mind magic allows us to move through the world in ways that help us reclaim our agency, realize our dreams, and reach out to help others along the path.

Where previous works about manifestation have focused narrowly on outward success and individual benefit, Mind Magic delivers an openhearted call to make manifestation of a deeper contribution to healing the problems we face today.

Doty will be in conversation with Jacinta Jiménez, an award-winning author and Stanford-trained psychologist.
