Award-winning journalist Angie Coiro quizzes five-time, undefeated Jeopardy! Champion Tom Nichols on his new book "The Death of Expertise" and the instantaneity of information.
Nichols, a professor of National Security Affairs at the US Naval War College asserts that the openness of the internet and the democratization of information consumption can have dangerous consequences. With signs of higher education slipping into a customer-satisfaction model, 24-hour news industries becoming transformed into entertainment machines, and citizens feeling expert after quick trips through WebMD or Wikipedia, Nichols warns that the proliferation of information, rather than producing an educated public, has instead created an army of ill-informed citizens.
Join one of the leading voices in the fight against fake-news as he sits for a special, evening edition of In Deep with Angie Coiro.
Nichols is also the author of several works on foreign policy and international security affairs, including The Sacred Cause, No Use: Nuclear Weapons and U.S. National Security, Eve of Destruction: The Coming Age of Preventive War, and The Russian Presidency.
